This week I turned 26-years old. These songs helped me celebrate yet another eventful year. “West” starts off with a ‘first’ for Family Knux: Our first K-Pop song. The girls of 2NE1 recently released their awesome Dancehall/Reggae/Dub track (shout-out to Diplo?). DJ Snake follows up with an infectious remix of AlunaGeorge. Stwo is a producer I’ve been diggin’—very good R&B jams. I’ve never heard of Kate Boy before but their track carries such an anthemic quality to it; I love it. We welcome back No Ceremony with a remix which reminds me of the opening credits to “Hackers” (one of my all-time favorite films). SILASISDEAD, Le Youth, Andrea, and Antwon rock the vibes between upbeat and slowwwww songs while Trippy Turtle finishes this mix with an awesome Jersey Club remix of a Keith-Sweat classic.

Lately I've been able to give attention to a lot of things that haven't previously had the time they deserve. I firmly believe that doing what you want fulfills your life and mental state. So go. Fly. First with this crazy-good, after-party Busta remix by Rook Milo that replaces the original's percussiveness with chilly synths. Nicole Wray's '98 debut has truly stood the test of time - still a jam. 1st of 4 from Soulection's incredible talent roster, ESTA with 'Baddie$,' a beat that SLAPS. 2nd of 4 is Phazz, a French producer whose Ryan Leslie remix makes me excited about the future of EDM. 3rd is Mr. Carmack, one of the industry's hottest talents right now. He also produced Mariami's track on this mix. 4/4 is IAMNOBODI with a truly soul-gripping refix of "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe." Vibes, on the real.
A few years ago we started trading mixtapes as a fun way to share new (or old) songs that we thought our brother-from-another-mother (or sister-from-another-mister) might enjoy. It began with a simple set of parameters — 10 tracks and a title — and quickly* became this little site where we can share with the world the mixtapes we've shared with each other.
* This site was completed in under 24 hours on a chilly, winter evening warmed by the glows of our computers.

Jackie is an interaction designer living and working in the Bay Area, often at the side of a cat who think's he's a dog, her best friend, and her favorite things: design, music and food. She created Family Knux as a place where she can give you two out of three. Maybe one day you'll get all three. Hmm.
