“Thunderbolt” opens with a nu-disco remix of Lorde, an artist recently getting lots of love online and over the airwaves. Next is my favorite song off this mix. Bosco’s dreamy R&B tune is to die for. Goldroom wakes us up with his danceable track “Embrace.” New Zealand’s The Naked & Famous couldn’t have debuted their sophomore record at a better time. Their song “I Kill Giants” will make you feel like a super hero. Maya Jane Coles gives us a breather with her chilled-out Deep House single. CHVRCHES returns with another catchy synth-filled jam. Anna Lunoe, along with Jessie Andrews & Jason Burns’ “Drake” remix keep the groove up before Claude VonStroke takes you on an almost-cinematic journey with “Urban Animal.” Etc!Etc! will surely get you poppin’ those ‘bows with his take on “Summertime Sadness.”

My years of listening to EDM has taken me through lots of subgenres, but a persevering staple is the prominence of electronic sounds over vocals, compared to the pop music I was once all about. I've now come full circle and the amalgamation of it is represented in this mix. I'll point out some of the lesser-known vocalists: Jeni is (mostly) a cover vocalist but is a super creative producer, proven by this mashup. Neon Hitch, as a colorful as her name implies, has a colorful voice to match. In an epic collab, former A$AP mobber Dominic Lord lays a rhyme over Blood Diamonds trademark sparkly synths. Slim and stylish Kilo Kish makes her FK debut with this Star Slinger produced track. And you might remember Sam Smith from Disclosure's huge track "Latch," but he's a powerhouse in his own right.
A few years ago we started trading mixtapes as a fun way to share new (or old) songs that we thought our brother-from-another-mother (or sister-from-another-mister) might enjoy. It began with a simple set of parameters — 10 tracks and a title — and quickly* became this little site where we can share with the world the mixtapes we've shared with each other.
* This site was completed in under 24 hours on a chilly, winter evening warmed by the glows of our computers.

Jackie is an interaction designer living and working in the Bay Area, often at the side of a cat who think's he's a dog, her best friend, and her favorite things: design, music and food. She created Family Knux as a place where she can give you two out of three. Maybe one day you'll get all three. Hmm.
