“Feels” starts with one of the most unique artists I’ve ever heard: FKA Twigs. “Water Me” is such a beautiful song that digs straight to your heart. Wave Racer return with a great remix for Panama. New kid on the scene Roby Howler makes a great debut with “Were Wrong.” “I Blame Myself” is off Sky Ferreira’s latest effort “Night Time, My Time.” Dunes’ remix of “Just Because” is groove-to-the-max. Cathy Dennis’ “Touch Me” was a hit in the ‘90s. Throw in some 2013-Jersey-Club drums and, “baby you got a stew goin’!” A W E’s “Eagle Soul” is definitely one for the long drives. Get your mean-face on for ’Funeral’s “Shutterbug”—you’ll wanna break stuff whilst wearing Versace. We finish with two great remixes of ‘90s hits by 2 of my favorite producers this year.

2013? Wasn't it just 2010? First year in Oakland. Quit my job. Music. Portland. Vegas. Seattle. Music. Seems appropriate for a "Best of" but those are so December. Instead, here's how I might summarize the year: understated. Arca, who's &&&&& mixtape release was kind of a quiet storm in the middle of the year, also produced FKA Twigs' "Water Me" from Andy's mix. Sophie's "Bipp" is so weird but chirpy you can't help but stay interested until the end of the song. I am pumped for Future Brown in 2014. Their one release this year foreshadows collaborations of greatness to come. Pretty expected of my lists: couple chill trap and garage tracks, but let's close it out nice and slow. Ryan Hemsworth's track for Tinashé, and then maybe the sweetest song this year, with Oshea Adam's vocals reminiscent of one of the year's biggest breakouts, Sam Smith.
A few years ago we started trading mixtapes as a fun way to share new (or old) songs that we thought our brother-from-another-mother (or sister-from-another-mister) might enjoy. It began with a simple set of parameters — 10 tracks and a title — and quickly* became this little site where we can share with the world the mixtapes we've shared with each other.
* This site was completed in under 24 hours on a chilly, winter evening warmed by the glows of our computers.
Andy is a 26-year-old graphic designer and musician from California. He works as a designer and spends his free time practicing DJing. Andy's favorite genres span—Dubstep, Electro-House, Moombahton, Hardcore/Punk, Shoegaze, Indie and many more.
Jackie is an interaction designer living and working in the Bay Area, often at the side of a cat who think's he's a dog, her best friend, and her favorite things: design, music and food. She created Family Knux as a place where she can give you two out of three. Maybe one day you'll get all three. Hmm.
