I’m so proud of Family Knux! 2-years old, what?! I’m starting 2014 with a remix of an oldie-but-a-goody. Jean Tonique turned Jay-Z into a nu-disco king with his remix of “I just…” Yung Lean was 2013’s most unique online persona; however, his track “Kyoto” leans (get it?) towards a more serious side. The following 3 tracks, played at a chill get-together, will bring out max vibes! Kappa Kavi’s “Textile Tiger” dabbles across several genres, and I love it! One of my faves off Ryan Hemsworth’s “unreleased remixes” pack was his “Lorde” remix. If I listened to bass-music in space, it would sound like Astro Zu. Set your MP3 player to “Freaky” for Ronaissance’s “That D’”—just too turnt! Neo-Tokyo’s re-work of Cassie’s “Balcony” is even better than the original!

It's super cool that Family Knux is 2 years old. Thanks to the few and loyal who check out our mixtapes. I *think* I speak for both of us when I say we live for this shit. If I can introduce one person to one new track or artist, then hours spent scouring the Internet to craft these playlists was well worth it. Spreading good music is my joy. Most of these tracks I picked out for you have a distinctly soulful/urban vibe to them – I wanted to kick off the year with some heat. A bit past the midpoint we peak with a heavy club banger that gets real big then real low. Then the latter half of the playlist should have you eyes closed, winding down. Shouts out to my favorite newcomer, FFFRRANNNO – peep his SoundCloud to get more goodness.
A few years ago we started trading mixtapes as a fun way to share new (or old) songs that we thought our brother-from-another-mother (or sister-from-another-mister) might enjoy. It began with a simple set of parameters — 10 tracks and a title — and quickly* became this little site where we can share with the world the mixtapes we've shared with each other.
* This site was completed in under 24 hours on a chilly, winter evening warmed by the glows of our computers.

Jackie is an interaction designer living and working in the Bay Area, often at the side of a cat who think's he's a dog, her best friend, and her favorite things: design, music and food. She created Family Knux as a place where she can give you two out of three. Maybe one day you'll get all three. Hmm.
