If it weren't for these two mixes, Family Knux may have never come to fruition. Both of us were in the middle of traveling throughout Europe with our professors and classmates when Jackie passed me what would eventually become "Volume I." I knew Jackie and I both had similar tastes in music, so I selected these songs — sonically in different directions — just to see where I should head for future mixes. Enjoy!

This mix was put together summer 2011 while Andy and and I were traveling across Europe with a group of design students. For three weeks I had an old iPod stocked with my can't-get-tired-of tracks that I wanted to share with Andy. This mix starts with a lovely produced Science For Girls cover of Pomplamoose's "Beat The Horse", and has original tracks by Mux Mool (hip hop/electronica, of Ghostly International), Mock & Toof (a rather unusual but ethereal track featuring wtf indie lyrics), jj (smooth, airy R&B for the indie pop-minded), and Lovage (trip hop to get down to). Remixes from two of my favorites - the aptly named Clock Opera and glitch hop producer of the year Star Slinger. Also, Tiffany.
A few years ago we started trading mixtapes as a fun way to share new (or old) songs that we thought our brother-from-another-mother (or sister-from-another-mister) might enjoy. It began with a simple set of parameters — 10 tracks and a title — and quickly* became this little site where we can share with the world the mixtapes we've shared with each other.
* This site was completed in under 24 hours on a chilly, winter evening warmed by the glows of our computers.
Andy is a 26-year-old graphic designer and musician from California. He works as a designer and spends his free time practicing DJing. Andy's favorite genres span—Dubstep, Electro-House, Moombahton, Hardcore/Punk, Shoegaze, Indie and many more.
Jackie is an interaction designer living and working in the Bay Area, often at the side of a cat who think's he's a dog, her best friend, and her favorite things: design, music and food. She created Family Knux as a place where she can give you two out of three. Maybe one day you'll get all three. Hmm.
