This may be the most bass-heavy mix I've done so far, and I absolutely love it! The entire list of artists is new to me with the exception of Solange (Beyoncé's younger sister). Devonté Hynes (AKA Blood Orange) really shines as a producer on this collab' w/Solange, mixing r&b, pop and a dash of Indie. Scotland's CHVRCHES nearly blew up the internet w/their debut single, "The Mother We Share." I can't help but be reminded of a poppier version of Purity Ring. Songs in the vein of Carling Ruse, Figgy, Baxta, and Ruddyp & Taquwami have been my jams lately–lots of bass and complex drum patterns. Songs from T. Williams, Duke Dumont, and 1984 Demo Tapes help throw in some variety for "Grey." Speaking of the Knowles sisterhood, Beyoncé's vocals are sampled in Jonas LR's "Oh."

2012 has been an amazing year for music and parties. I saw some of my favorite artists and producers, which this mix largely represents. When I heard that the first track was by Daedelus I almost didn’t believe it. And then I found out it’s a Janet Jackson / Beach Boys refix. What! Jeremih makes two appearances–first a chopped and slo-mo version of his doin' it anthem, and then a more romantic version of "773" by Cashmere Cat. I was surprised by the Kuhrye-oo remix; it's soft for Sliink, but I dig it. Shlohmo, Star Slinger, LOL Boys, xxyyxx are some highlights of acts I got to see this year, along with Disclosure, who you probably haven't been able to stop hearing about this year. For good reason. And the year’s not even over yet! December’s going to be legit.
A few years ago we started trading mixtapes as a fun way to share new (or old) songs that we thought our brother-from-another-mother (or sister-from-another-mister) might enjoy. It began with a simple set of parameters — 10 tracks and a title — and quickly* became this little site where we can share with the world the mixtapes we've shared with each other.
* This site was completed in under 24 hours on a chilly, winter evening warmed by the glows of our computers.
